I believe that when teaching writing, the Writer's Workshop model is very useful as it teaches students the process of writing. For young students, they learn how to tell a story from a drawing and are then encouraged to use phonetics to sound out words as they begin to write labels and simple sentences.

This is an example of a Writer's Workshop lesson. The focus was to use the students phonetic knowledge to create simple sentences about the topic of cats or dogs as pets.
